A hydroxide (base) and hydrogen gas are formed when metals react with water.

2 Na + 2 H2O ---> 2 NaOH + H2

Ca + 2 H2O ---> Ca(OH)2 + H2

Im not 100% sure but I belive that it is O2, It is called Oxidazation, or rusting.
