The Sphinx was a symbol for real hardships and resultant fear of the Ancient Greek civilization. If there were such a symbol for our time, what would it be and what would it symbolize?

I'd have to say the western dragon, for the stereotype western dragon is greedy and warlike, since they seem to horde gold and jewels and attack local villages.

Personally my view of dragons isn't stereotypical but as a symbol one could use the stereotypical image of the dragon as most of this world is at war and is money hungry
