My sister in law is prego. She has a 17 year old daughter named Leela MaKendall... well she's 31 weeks pregnant with a little girl. She wants the name to be pronounced Like Lie-luh. I say you spell it Lila, she says Lyla. Which one is correct?? I also find it to similar to Leela.

Definitely agree that it's too similar, that's going to get so confusing.
You both are correct but I'd go with Lyla, because there's a chance you could pronounce Lila 'Lee-la' and you don't want that confusion especially if that's her other daughters name. Lilah is also good and is definitely pronounced lie-luh like she wants.
Also if she wants another similar name Layla/Leila is nice. But If it was my sister I'd try and talk her out of a similar name! (In a friendly way of course). It will get super confusing. If she wants to
'link' them why not call her daughter part of her other daughters middle name, maybe Kendall, or Kendra which is similar. Either that or pick Leela or Lyla/Lila as a middle name for the new daughter, yet pick a completely different name for her first name!
I realise people can be stubbon though! It's her choice after all.

I would go with Lyla because when most people see 'Lila' written down, they pronounce it 'Lee-luh', since that's the original pronunciation. 99% of people called 'Lila' pronounce it with a 'Lee' sound instead of a 'Lie' one. If you want a 'Lie-luh' then it should be spelt Lyla. Also, even if you do go with Lyla, as you pointed out isn't that kinda similar to Leela?

It's usually spelled Lila, but some might prounounce it Leela, so to avoid confusion, I'd say go for Lyla or Lilah. Also for consideration, Layla, Laila.

Lila is more common but Lyla is pretty in spelling. Either way both ways are fine.
Lila- a name that comes from Indian origin means "A Heavenly Game"
Lyla- a name that comes from French origin means "Island"

I knew a Lady named Lyla. Its never spelled Lila. Always with a Y. Lyla.

If she want's spelled Lie-luh, it needs to be Lila! If its Lyla she ends up being called different, like you would say Carolyn, compare to Caroline, or better the Y might be pronounced like Lynda. Anyway it's very close to Leela but that's ok it does sound different.

I would have to say Lyla. I have an old crabby aunt named Lila. Layla is a cool name too...and its the title of a cool Derek and the Dominos song.

Now-a-days people completely change the spelling of traditional names and names are been made up i don't think is a big deal how to 'properly' spell the name.. I will prefer your spelling of Lila -because in my mind THAT makes sense and sounds correct- but then again, your sister in law may want to be original and do her own spelling!.... Why not name her Lilac?

Lyla, there's a song from the band Oasis called like that, they pronounce Lyla as you wish and I think is a beautiful name ;)
