I have an idea for a book, and I was wondering if it would be a good idea. So basically my idea for a book would be a book about the living dead. This book would be aimed at young adults and it would be an original story with references to various films (i.e. Romero zombie films, Shaun of the Dead). So far, I have no idea as in terms of plot, but what do you all think? Is it a good idea? Can it be done?

Well there are two schools of thought. One is plot driven scenerios, which would ultimately be your downfall. Since you don't have one.

Two is make it a character driven story. Have different characters with different traits. One is a girl chaser, one is the kung-fu cheerleader, one is the future valedictorian of everything, one is a plain jane, with a great personality and solid leadership skills. After developing characters, creating the associations or how they know each other, then you will figure out where the zombies come from! Then you build your story from those foundations.

Example: I had an idea for a solid character series. He was an FBI Agent who had some military training, a degree in psycology, and had done some investigating of a serial killer, and got handed the FBI's biggest serial killer case.

Boom.

That was the idea, it came about from another character idea I had and I wanted to find a vehicle to introduce him. I came up with the guy described above and by doing so it gave me the third book. All are outlined and ready to be typed, but they are about four books away in my current projections.

So go with character driven stories, they are in some ways easier to develope than plot driven stories, where characters do something out of character to appease the plot.

Sounds like the basis of a good novel. Add a twisting plot and some intriguing characters and you're almost there! I love the idea to have references to Shaun of the Dead and everything, it will cause your readers subliminal mind to question reality and even the possibility of the un-dead. . . Powerful stuff, go for it!

Living dead don't really appeal to me. Too creepy and it's been done before.

I have this original idea for a story about an 11 year old orphaned boy who discovers that his parents were wizards before they were murdered by an evil wizard who also tried to kill this boy but the spell backfired and the boy goes to a famous wizard school and rides around on a hot rod broom? I think I can stretch it out to seven episodes.

I think You should write a book about an aspiring author who starts to write a book about the living dead but starts to live the book in real life...................see how much fun You can have with a simple premise?

I think it is a good idea. You just need to tell us more - for instance how did they become living dead, what do they do, what are they striving for - those kind of things.
