Primarly It sounds like a problem of 'over heating'.
Secondly what comes to mind is that your PSU (power supply unit) is falty and is improperly regulating the power of your unit.
and lastly viruses....
Now, how to fix for these problems?
OverHeating: Take It Back to the store. Units should never over heat like this out of the box (or even two days later). If you want a temporary solution then make sure the unit is not 'boxed in' and has room to breath. Also, if at all posiable take the side of the case off, so that more cool air can enter the unit.
PSU: Take it back to the store. Units should NOT be sold that are 'shorting out'. If this is the case, you should turn off your computer right now and not turn it on again untill it is opened by a profesional. The reason for this is because if the PSU is not working correctly it can be dangerous and even damage other parts of the machine (fry your mobo videocards etc etc... not pretty)
and lastly viruses...
Myspace is well known for viruses, and if you gave me a few secounds I could write a quick hijacker, that would change the webpage you are on to any website I wanted (includeing one with a virus that would automaticly download when you whent there)
also you might have picked up a bug before even going to his profile...
the best action you can take if this is the case, is to buy some AntiVirus software, and maybe even do a clean format of your computer...

First off, what are your computer's specs? Full specs are always nice when it comes to diagnosing computer problems, without them, it's basically tossing out BS answers. ;)
Is it a Dell/IBM/Gateway?
What OS are you running, XP or Vista?
What programs are running in the background, hit ctrl+alt+delete and check out the processes tab.
Do you have all the latest updates for your OS?
What anti-virus program are you running?
Who is your ISP? Does your ISP have it's own AVP/anti-spyware running?

lolz @ the first answer. if this happens only when u view that certains friends profile maybe they have something on their page. check your task manager to check if the usage goes up to 100% or anything around that area.

there maybe a problem with windows like a small error. it happens a lot. your friend probably has a certain thing that the windows software cannot detect dur to the error.
