The car is beautiful enough to draw you in like a sucubus and then take you. Like you said the engine is a turd and they should basically put their famous 2.3L turbo in this car and make it a real sports car. If you go with automatic you are basically buying a car less powerful then a Civic Si (ouch) and the engine maintance will be annoying to some people. You would be better off buying a used G35 or 350Z if you don't need the passenger room. If you just like Mazda's then get a Mazdaspeed6 with 274hp and awd or Mazdaspeed3 with 263hp and smoke these RX8's.

The Mazda Rx8 is a great car. The Renesis rotary engine is a lot more reliable and powerful than past rotaries. The rx8's engine is designed to consume some oil because it lubricates another part of the engine. If you keep revving the car up to 9000 rpm you probably are going to have problems with ur transmission. It gets 18 miles to the gallon city on premium. Under normal driving it gets about 21 mpg. Better than suv's. You should do some more research and test drive one but i recomend the rx8 over the 350Z because the rx8 handles better and could be used in everyday driving. It's way more fun to drive, the 350Z handles like a muscle car.

Yes, you should go for it...

The car is sleek, its sporty, its comfortable.. it has its own characteristics.. it has 4 doors and the legroom at the back is comfortable.. You should choose either black or strato-blue which has also been nicknamed the "X-men" blue. This car was featured in one of the "X-men" series..

As for the performance wise, you can either choose the manual or the automatic version. The automatic version does come with the sports-shift gear and that comes into play if you feel like driving in a manual mode on some days.. Although there are quite a number of blind spots, but you will soon get used to it and the parking for this car is easy.. The turning radius is not big as well, unlike driving a Volvo.

Now for the next most important factor... the fuel consumption.. On really good days (that's when you are frequently travelling on the freeways), fuel consumption can be 9.5KM per litre.. However, if you are always caught in traffic jams or if you need to travel in areas where there are lots of traffic lights, then the fuel consumption can be as low as 6 - 6.5km per litre....

So, dude, have a good think about it.. The road tax is also based on 1.3 Litre but this car acts like a 2.6L due to its unique rotary engine..

My recommendation is... U should GO for it, dude!!

Oil is something you have to watch. Its not change it and forget it. Mazda suggests checking it every 2 tanks of fuel. It does not use THAT much, but then again, I dont drive the hell out of mine.. if and when I did, consumption would go up.
Fuel economy for me sits at 18mpg on premium fuel. I use 2-3 tanks a week, depending.
Its a great car, the handling is amazing and its just enough power for me. I'm not some horsepower freak so its enough. The Renesis rotary has its bugs, but I understand that and am prepared for whatever may happen... I count on it but if it fails, I'm not going to have a fit.

She's a little bit high maintenance, but makes up for it with good looks, excellent performance, and... there isnt one every time you turn. Not a cheap car to buy, insure, or keep running... but for me, its well worth it.

There are pros and cons to any vehicle.

My advice to you is to research the RX8 at www.edmunds.com and read some of the owner reviews.

Personally, I'm a car nut and have worked on rotary engines in the past. I wouldn't touch one with a 10 foot pole if I wasn't planning on over maintaining it and babying it.

But don't let my opinion sway you. Read several opinions and then decide for yourself.

I always say, buy what you like, but most of all, buy what you can afford.

I have a 04 rx8 and I have never had a problem with the motor flooding or any other motor problems. My transmission did go out at 25k miles and my dealership denied the claim because they called it neglect or abuse. Which Is totally wrong. I have talked to other owners on www.rx8club.com and there are quite a few other people having problems with the manual transmissions and the dealerships are not covering the claims. I wish I would have bought a Nissian 350Z instead.

i own an rx7 and have done alot of research on the car the tranny does have some problems if you abuse the hell out of it, but the new side port design keep it from having anyover lap in the rotor so no more sucking in some exhaust into the itake cycle like mine does, it is alot more powerful and efficent than past rotay's handle like a dream if i had the money and did not have so many project on my hands i would get one, another car to consider would be the WRX sTi another awesome car but like with all auto's treat it bad it will treat you bad you know what i mean? and as far as consuming a lil more oil its true it injects oil onto the side of the rotor housing to keep it lubed but as long as you do not go to long with out and oil change you'll be just fine, if you like it get it!
