Practice definitely makes perfect, like everyone has said.
When I was in choir, we sang scales on numbers, where 1 was whatever key the song was in. (So if we were in the key of C, our base note, 1, would be a C. Then, D would be 2, E would be 3, and so on until you got back to 1 at the next C.)
Anyway, if you can figure out what key a sheet of music is in (usually pretty easy, you can ask another question here if you need help with that, haha), you can write in what "numbers" all the notes are. This will help you recognize how big of a "jump" there is between notes. It also helps to have a piano or something to make sure you're singing the correct notes.
Like everyone said, it is mainly practice, but if you can come up with a system that works for you, it can make things a million times easier.

read a lot of music - practice a lot. that's the only way you're ever going to learn.
