I have a Windows XP Home Edition Desktop that passed the Upgrade Advisor, is there a free legal download to upgrade to some verson of Vista

No, there isn't however if you bought your computer recently you may be eligible for a free Windows Vista Express Upgrade CD - check with your retailer and computer manufacturer.

XP!!! or ya a Mac could be solid selection too. vista and ME are terrible. you may save money going XP over vista. why do you like a clean pc? you could extremely get a used pc from a working laptop or pc save that buys and sells pc kit. a save like pc renaissance. don't comprehend your area yet im confident there's a save like this one somebody around you.

was there a free upgrade from ME to XP? or 98 or 2000?

why would gates be so rich is we did not need to pay for each 'new and improved' OS? (the answer is no)

Microsoft would never allow a download for an OS over the internet... You would have to order it online if you had the coupon.

While it was in beta version you could.. Since realease, no. You will need to throw microsoft some money.
