If everything goes well India will take several decades to become a developed nation. Look at Japan and Korea, and realize that they took 30-40 years to reach current GDP per capita with homogeneous populations. The diversity in India and cultural resistance to change especially in agriculture will prolong the development of India.

Indian exceptionalism is a barrier to industrialization. If India is to develop, it will have to shift fundamentally... something unsettling for many Indians.

Keeping everything in the hands of Government, nothing is going to change! Many public departments should be privatized!! Or else, we can never bring about the positive changes in India! For example, In chennai, i live at Perambur, where only some 125 years ago, the Integral coach factory(ICF) born. There are more than 15,000 workers, working in the railway coach factory. But, any one can guess, the working people there are, only 10-20%. Remaining people usually never work. And there were people to punch time-cards for the sake of others in monthly basis too!! If you happened to see in side and out side the ICF factory, you can assume their working ability through their irresponsible, unclean buildings, dilapated roads and dirty surroundings!! No private companies would keep their own site as unclean and irresponsible ever!!
UNLESS ATLEASE 50% (Fifty for Govt. & fifty for private)IN RAILWAYS, BUS SERVICES, ETC, ARE AWARDED FOR PRIVATE COMPANIES, INDIA WILL NEVER IMPROVE BY ANY STANDARD & AT ANY TIME!
You please think about the entry of private people in Tele communication. How fast the growth of our nation is, and how less the tele-rates too!!
So, my opinion is, the Lazy public sectors should be unquestionably closed and offered for many good private companies for their better services with competitive rates!
UNTIL THE TIME, IT IS MERE DREAM TO BE AT PAR TO COMPETE WITH THE OTHER DEVELOPED NATIONS!!

India was pauper in 1947 immediately after independance.
Now after 60 years ,we see phenomenal progress in engineeing ,manufacturing,IT&ITES,Space research, atomic research, power generation, transportation etc.

If the same pace of growth is maintained further (though not increased) India is bound to grow further to apprecial level in another 60 years.
Optimically speaking, India is likely to become a recognised super power before end of this century, like any other developed country.
