Honda did. They didn't sell well. Had a CM400A for a while. Only 2 speeds. I usually don't call anything a "girls bike", but this one was. Don't be offended, it belonged to both my sister and my mother before I got it. As far as modern day automatics, Ridley makes a few. They seem to get good reviews. Their newest thing is a standard transmission model Check out their website. I'm not aware of any others at the moment.

Ninja 650r is a good beginner bike, I currently own a 2007 Plasma Blue 650R. Truth be told, they are viewed as a "chick bike" by supersport owners... Now for the good points. Power is smooth and the upright seating position makes for a great communter bike- You can tuck when needed, but the screen pushes most of the air off your chest at highway speeds. I've never averaged lower than 47mpg no matter how hard I tried to wring it out, and I dont bother watching the tach... You can still beat almost any car, and 90% of the "big" cruisers.(Must note that even a 600cc inline 4 sportbike will put you to shame, a 1000cc will make you think you are riding a 35cc moped) The 650R is hard to be stupid on, you cant lift off the front unless you really try, and mine has been used to teach my brothers how to ride without any incidents so far. Also the insurance is cheap! My 650R only runs be about 600/year full coverage through progressive, while my old 750gsxr was almost 3k/year(never bothered with full coverage after hearing that quote)

An American company named Ridley already makes one but I don't know how good it is.
The Honda automatic motorcycles never sold very well.
There is just something fundamentally wrong with the idea of a automatic transmission on a motorcycle.

They were not popular in the past because of poor fuel mileage and slow acceleration.I had a 750 Honda Matic it sucked,Fuel that is.18 miles to the gallon.

Honda already has a freeway legal automatic.. we still call it a scooter though... I doubt anyone will go beyond that (thier sales are low anyway) there isnt really a market for it.. you either wanna ride a bike or you get a vespa...

Honda had one in the 70's. CM400A or CM750A. One or the other. Otherwise they have the SilverWing, which is technically a scooter.

I can't imagine why anyone short of a beginner would want one.
