this is how i always understood those math problems:

first, it usually helps if you 'add the opposite' meaning if you have a subtraction make it an addition and the next number signs changes to the opposites this way you have all additions. in this case the original problem is -57 - 62 but now it is -57 + -62. when you have the same signs all you do is add them and copy the sign.

if you end up with a postive and a negative number, then put the larger of the two numbers on the top, subtract, and then copy the sign of the larger number.

i know this sounds kind of confusing but i hope it helped.

Forget about the - sign and add -57+-62=-119 Negatives can be challenging for example -43+20= 23 because it's a positive you subtract 20 from -43. it's like you owe 43 dollars to someone and you pay them 20 dollars now you only have to pay 23 dollars.
-43+-20=-63 it's like you barrowed 43 bucks, and then barrowed 20 more so now you owe 63. I hope I helped good luck!

easy. ok all you do is forget the negitives. 57 + 62 is 119. now.. with the negative it would be -119. because if you are subtracting from a negative, it is just like adding negatives. make any sense? well the answer is -119 anyway.

in 8th grade we learned the cha cha rule for this
you cha to make the negative positive (by drawing a line though it) and you cha again to make the second number negative
-57-62 is the same as -57+-62 then you just add them and the answer is negative
-119
