There have been cases of babies being born with legs stuck together.
And surgery was needed.
This might be where the idea first came from way back.

my friend sent me a picture of japanese mermaid mummy. he said it was popular in japan. different from our known mermaid, japanese mermaid are far from beautiful. their lower body are fish, and the upper are human-shaped, but its face are monstrous with popping eyes and sharp teeth.
I saw the picture but i think it's a hoax. it's looked like a black dry half fish-half monkey and sized no more then 10 yrs old child.
guess what? I google it and find the pictures. they'r all japanese mermaid mummies

someday. we've yet to find them...or rather they find us. i believe in mermaids. the ocean's too big and too wide and too deep for nothing magical to be living in it.

there hasn't been. but i've heard stories of people who've seen them. my grandma saw one, my cousin felt something scratch her feet while swimming. i read this story about this man's encountering with one of them. he said that the lady led him to another world underwater and how he did things for her. when he didn't give her what she wanted, she tried to kill him. He said she was the devil's agent. Bottom line...they are not of God and they're evil!!!!
