Either something with Salycylic Acid in it or Benzoyl Peroxide in it. I found that Benzoyl Peroxide works best for me like Neutrogena spot treatment or Clearsil. Those help dry up the infected pores. Sometimes something harsh with sulphur in it will work-- I believe there is a soap out there in your local drug store. Drink lots of water and use a cleansing system for oily and problematic skin i.e: Clinique, Neutrogena, Clearsil are a some good ones. Hope this helps!
PS- Benzoyl Peroxide has a tendency to bleach sheets and towels. So, if you use it at night, sleep on a white towel--that will save your linens and wash with a white washcloth.

Ive had pretty good skin until i decided to mess it up by trying all these products including proactive to make sure that i prevent any possible breakouts. All of them were too harsh for my skin and made my skin breakout and flake.I had to go back to the basics and be patient to get my skin back under control. First you need to determine your skin type. Oily, combination, dry or normal. Since you say you have pimples im assuming you are either oil or combination skin.
get a consultation by mario badescu (http://www.mariobadescu.com) u can im me for more information they have a questionaire you feel out they send you samples and you can see results IN AS LITTLE AS ONE WEEK. my own tips are

1)make sure not to touch your face or rub your face with your bare hands always use a cotton ball to apply cleansers toners and moisturizers,

2)take MSM supplements or a multivitamin
(msm works wonders for some people i know with acne because it has sulfur in it)

3)start a skin care regimen and stick to it you may experience a few more pimples but your skin should clear up in a little while.

4)drink more water and try to eliminate unnecessary caffeine or sugars

for already existing pimples;
1)apply ice all over your face to kill the bacteria
2)use a drying lotion (mario badescu drying lotion works well)
or a more economic calamine lotion and leave it on overnight
3)always use sunscreen when using products that have acne medicine in it (benzoyl peroxide, salicyic acid, sulphur, tricloroban) or you will end up doing more damage to your skin.

good products:
masks :biore warming mask
toners: witch hazel or apple cider vinegar mixed with water

Wash face daily with warm water twice. This will avoid pimples from forming.

Once the pimples are formed, do not prick, however tempting it be.

1. Wash face with cleanser soap available in market (specifically for pimples).
2. Gently massage the skin around the pimples.
3. Do not scratch.
4. Avoid contact of nails
5. Avoid over cosmetic materials (including excessive application of face powder).

The doctor. Nothing you can get over the counter will be strong enough for a serious acne problem. But if you just have one or two pimples try benzoyl peroxide.

Go to a dermatologist and get a prescription if it is pretty severe. Everyone I know who breaks out really bad has never had any luck with over the counter medications. They feel so horrible for a long time and then FINALLY get to the dermatologist, which always works!

I had a lot of acne from stress, and Proactive really helped me, but u've to finish the whole thing. They have other products that are very similar and cheaper that are being sold at walgreens,Walmart, etc, but be careful b/c some of them are oil free which could dry ur face.

Just wash your face with warm water and antibacterial hand soap. It really helps! Rub lemon juice on your face. Eat lots of fruit. All the stuff you see on tv is fake. They just want your money. Mix lemon juice with a teaspoon of warm water and rub on your face with a cotton ball. After about 10 mins wash your face with warm water. And wash with the soap as well. Wash your face in the morning, night and when you take a shower. Keep a hand sized bottle of vasaline lotion with you at all times.
And do lemon exercise every 2 or 3 days. It really helps im not making it up, i do it all the time!!! Good luck!!!!
