1. An employee that does really good work but stresses out easily
or
2. An employee that does poor work but does not stress out easily

The job is a high paying, high stress level job

It sounds easy to teach stress management, but with the occasional employee "going postal" I'm not so sure. I work for a boss who always screams and cusses. He's only 40. He certainly isn't the type to change.

I'm a person who would be in between 1 and 2 and with the right environment, I would strive to do more. Would the stressed out person be capable of doing more? What would they be like if they were promoted?

Just an alternate opinion!

I'll be the first to actually answer the question ;)

I'd chose 1. The stress management can be taught. Poor work on the other hand is much harder to correct. It's up to the person doing the hiring though to address the issue.

I would hire Neither one unless there is a plan for improvement.
1. Good work but stresses out. Need to relax.
2. Poor work but does not stress out. Needs training to improve quality.

Employee 1 and have that person attend stress management classes during the probationary period.

Why hire employee 2? They do lousy work and they don't worry about it. That is an unfixable problem.

Employee #1. You can combat, contain and relieve stress, but you rarley can make a poor worker work well without expending major resourses.

Hire the person that does great work. If they burn out, then hire someone else that does great work.

NEVER hire someone that will do poor work.
