I have a very heavy courseload and a full time job yet I can't stop worrying about annoying questions (ie existence or nonexistence of God or afterlife, fate of the universe, etc).

What do I do to stop the agony?

Well, first, my condolences. I've been there, doing 30 hours a week at uni and holding down two jobs, while battling depression, and a chronic, (then) undiagnosed ilness.

First thing you need to do is talk to your tutor, and explain the situation. They might help you out.

Then you need to go see your uni counsellor.. they're not perfect, but they're free, and talking to someone objective might help to let things out.

Next, you need to go see a doctor and explain your problems. They may have some answers the previous two haven't thought of.

And finally... you need to CHILL OUT. yes, you have a heavy workload and a full time job, but you need to find time for yourself. I didn't, and i constantly worried about a lot of things, and I ended up dropping out cos I was too stubborn to find help.

Luckily it was the best thing for me, and I'm happy in my new job, looking at a promotion to manager soon, but if you feel you really want to carry on, then take my advice.

Another option is to take a year out and try and save money so you don't have to work, or go do something you enjoy, but if you are in your final or 3rd year, this may not be possible. Like i said go speak to your tutor and find out your options.

DO NOT BE AFRAID TO ASK THE PROFESSIONALS FOR HELP!

I think it might help you to set aside some time every day to think, like taking a quiet walk. This might clear your head so you can focus on your studies.

Also you might want to reconsider the heavy course load and/or the full time job. Going to college IS a full time job, and you might need to cut some things out of your schedule.

Go to the health center of the university that you are attending and discuss the fact that you have anxiety to the point that it is interfering with your life. Ask them to refer you for counseling. They may recommend back to the physician for medication while working with you, or may be able to help you directly without.
Good luck. Many people need a little assistance when faced with extraordinary lifestyle pressures.

Force yourself to maintain periods of "going on automatic" (going through the motions), of daily responsibilities. "Let go" of all unecessary thought processes. Take a "mental vacation"!!! You can go back to "thinking" in a day or two. It helps!!!

Consider lightening your course load. It may take a little longer, but you'll have a better time.
