What I want to know is if anyone KNOWS the story behind the following songs. Don't give me your opinions, just facts.

MC Hammer's Cant Touch This sounds like Rick James' Superfreak.
Vanilla Ice's Ice Ice Baby sounds like Queen's Under Pressure.
At least the opening riffs do.

Blatant Plagiarism, Flattery by Emulation, or Coincidence?

Well, you are correct. MC Hammer had permission and gave credit. Vanilla Ice brought about his own demise (other than his foolishness and lack of talent) when he actually tried to deny that the riff was lifted from queen.

Hammer=flatery
Vanilla Ice=theivery.

I remember watching a show on VH1 a few years ago about Vanilla Ice. He was charged for stealing the beat, but he denied it and said that his beat had an extra note or some bull like that. They both sounded the same to me. I don't know about MC Hammer though. Those sound the same as well.

A lot of rap songs (and now pop/rock songs as well) have beats from other songs. It used to be you could sample form others' songs without punishment but these days you must ask permission and pay royalites for samples.

Vanilla Ice sampled without permission, which I suppose means it is plagiarism. MC Hammer probably had permission, as legal action was not brought against him for that song.

It's called sampling, and if they go about it legally and obtain permission from the original artist, then I would call it flattery. In the case with Ice, he definitely stole it.
