THIS IS NOT A HOMEWORK HELP!!! This is curiosity and research for a story.

Also, what dinosaur breeds were prelevent at the time of "extinction" and any mammals or other non dinosaurs that may have been around at the same time?

my question, simply, is what dinosaur species and other animals were on the planet when the dinosaurs went extinct.

My story is an exploration of why, a fictional explanation and telling of the last days of the dionsaurs, so I am simply looking to see which dinosaurs could be included as the characters and what other animal species could be included, both as victims of the mass extinction as well as survivors of it.

There are legends of sea-monsters, dragons, and giant creatures in virtually every culture, not to mention many many supposedly extinct creatures and plants found worldwide...My point being: that there was no soecific era, but a gradual extinction maybe due to humans and climactic change....Perchance this will add a new demention to your narrative...

It is believed that Dinosaurs largely went extinct during the late Cretaceous age. There is empirical evidence associated regarding the impact of a large asteroid which happened during the K-T boundary. Dinosaurs such as T-Rex in North America, Triceratops were present. However, some mammals had also started to appear. The collection of animals, so famously called dinosauridae may in fact have been unrelated species altogether, just like amphibians are distinct from birds etc. Some of the early bird fossils bear resemblance to the raptors.
So far, scientists have not conclusively proved that all dinosaurs belonged to a set of animals with unique characteristics. If Michael Crichton's novel Jurassic Park is to be believed, there have been even greater extinctions in the previous eras as compared to Dinosaur extinction. And also, in case you fancy a fight between a T-Rex and a Brachiosaurus, it is just a fancy-because these two belonged to different eras, separated millions of years from each other. The K-T boundary occurs at around 65 million years ago according to geological studies. 65 million years ago, the continents on this earth were different! And the Himalayas had not even formed. So we must be humble in the face of such stupendous facts. The Earth has seen several thousands of changes. Human history ( I mean humans as a species) is a mere speck of dust on the timescale of organic existance, forget the age of the Earth itself.
