I did not hear a timeframe that was sooner than a day, but he did say 1500 troops to leave Iraq followed by another 1500 troops by the end of 2007. This leaves 4000 out of the original 7000 British troops left in Iraq. A majority of the British want the same as a majority of America, their troops out of Iraq. Blair is saying that his troops are accomplishing their goals so its time to leave. I think he is saying this as well but also getting his troops out the way, if eventually the US has a military confrontation with Iran. Because the violence out of Iran would definitely spill over into Iraq.

Blair is going to announce a slow withdraw of troops, about half will be gone from Iraq by Christmas.

The Brits are against the war. That's no secret. And they realize there is no final victory plan.
