it all depends on the position of ur baby.. my baby had her legs crossed and wouldnt uncross them for anything.. thats why they tell u to drink a lot of water and to hold it.. so that way the baby is moving around and changing positions... my doctor was patient and we finally got her to uncross her legs.. but make sure to drink a lot of water and hold it!!! Good luck!! and Congrats!

It all depend on the babys position. If they are facing towards your back they can't see in between the legs. Also, if your due date is off, it might still be too soon to tell, but that is probably not likely bc they say between 16 - 20 wks you can tell. If it is hard for the tech to tell.. more then likely it is a girl bc they dont see the boy parts (if you know what I mean) I wouldn't be too worried about it though, bc the first ultrasound can be sort of lengthy as they measure things and what not, and they will keep a look out for the sex as the baby moves around. Good luck and I hope you find out... It makes the pregnancy that much more real having your first ultrasound!

The only reason that they won't be able to tell is if the baby is not in the proper position, my older sister's baby wouldn't basically open her legs for them to see on the ultrasound. They did another one a few weeks later and they could tell it was a little girl! Congrats and Good Luck!

It all depends on rather or not the baby cooperates. If the baby is not turned the right way, unfortunatly they will not be able to tell. When I had my daughter, even though she came early at 26 weeks, she never did turn around enough for them to see, so I had to wait until she got here. Just keep you finger crossed that he/she is laying in the right position.... good luck.

I do not know the odds (although it is very hard to see it at 20 weeks sometimes... baby has to really cooperate)
I do know that you could ask for another test later in the pregnancy to make sure. I did and I am happy I did.

At my 20wk scan my baby had legs firmly crossed - i tried to encourage baby to move (gentle poking and prodding.. even emptied my bladder in the hopes baby would move) - no such luck! lol.

I took it as a sign i wasn't suppose to know and decided against any further ultrasounds to find out. I'm 32wks now - i should know in 8 wks (if baby is on time! LOL)

Good luck :)

My U/S tech says that about 20% of the time they can not determin the sex of the baby. My OB told me to drink 8 oz of apple or orange juice 40 mins befiore my U/S it gives baby lots of natural sugar to help wake them up & make them active to make sure they get the money shot, good luck.

I knew at 14 weeks.

I do know the farther along you re the harder it is. The baby gets too big to see the entire baby. At 26 weeks I had another ultrasound and it was hard to see that it was a girl.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!!

I bought a 3D ultrasound at 17 weeks that told me girl.

At my normal 20 week ultrasound we didnt tell the tech that we knew and she confirmed it, girl!!

Just this week i went with a good friend to her 20 week ultrasound and they could tell she was having a girl!!

Please update with the sex if they find out!!

As long as the technician has a clear view... you should be able to determine the sex of the baby.
My baby had it's legs crossed... I even got up and jumped around trying to get the little bugger to spread'em... no luck!!

I had a baby girl... it was a great surprise!!

The US tech was able to tell my son right away. With my sister-in-law's daughter, it was a little trickier. They only got a quick flash, and the tech said she was about 80% sure it was a girl. They did a second U/S a week later, and she said definately girl.
