computer memory?

i have a pc 133 and it had 640mb of memory i added compatible 1g memory but when i check in the system info it just shows the 640 if i take out all except the 1g it says 1g if i add 128 to the 1g it says 128 is it all working or is just what it is showing working also when it is booted up it reads the same as i described

did you make sure that the larger chip, ie, the 1gb was in the zero slot? and, if that computer is that old, how were you able to get a 1gb chip for it??
and, for that matter, why not just leave out the 128?
