Naw. The minute you don't respect or love your hard earn money, you become evil ;) Some people just don't understand the concept of money. They think there are other things that are more important than money, like love. I think they are equally important. Some people always say love is more important than money, but I think it's like asking what's more important, your arm or your leg.
Stop worrying about what other people say. Sounds like you're on top of your money management. I bet that your savings account is bigger than hers. Good luck ;)

I say your co-worker is both correct...AND an idiot ;)
The LOVE of money is infact the root of all evil. True. The love of it is wrong. To value it over people, principles, values, etc, is wrong.
Now rich people are evil? How is that? Children born into wealthy families are just born evil I guess by her logic.
In reality it's just her subconsious. At some point in her life, probably when she was young/school, she was jealous of those with money. As she's gotten older, instead she's realized (more like resigned) to the fact that she'll never reach that type of income, so now anyone with ability to create wealth for themselves is now 'evil'.
Just a case of narrow-mindedness :)

You sound like you have a good heart, which IMO is one of the most important assets in the world. And you don't seem to love money - you love food, shelter, and taking care of your family. We just happen to live in a society where these things aren't commonly possible without money. They're definitely possible - just not commonly so.
Do you know why people are greedy? Because they're afraid and insecure that they don't already have enough.
People who want more money for power... feel too powerless.
People who want more money for comfort... don't feel comfortable enough, and are probably also afraid of future discomfort.
All want... signifies a feeling of lack and insufficiency. That's not evil - that's unhappiness.
So loving money isn't necessarily evil, but it probably is a misjudgment of what will provide genuine long-term happiness and ful-fill-ment.
This is also one reason why so many rich people aren't necessarily happy - they get divorces, depression, get addicted, and even break laws, etc. just like the rest of the us. And many of them still want to make more money (signifying a really deep feeling of lack and discontent), even though to us they already have enough. So many celebrities who seem to have it all, really do not - as in the case of Spears, Smith, Gibson, etc.
Rich people aren't evil - but they do tend to be a bit more self-centered, however, in my opinion. (Quite a few are aloof, fake, arrogant, vain, snotty, etc. all signs of more underlying unhappiness.) With 3 billion poor people in the world, born poor and in poor countries through no fault of their own, it takes a great deal of self-centered energy to ignore and repress that reality. I mean, that's like 1 person eating cake, trying hard to ignore the 9 other people eating bread crumbs all their lives. It's not quite fair, and it's certainly not very humane, which is probably why your co-worker considers this "evil". So rich people have to invent excuses to justify their inaction and non-sharing, like "I worked hard", "That's the way life is," "I'm only 1 person," "I didn't create this problem," "I donate some to charity", etc.
Rich people pay a price for closing their heart off to fellow human suffering. They lose the opportunity, honor, humanity, and courage to be generous and to help ease the suffering of humankind. Neither they, nor your co-worker, see that in giving of themselves, they can get much, much more in return.

This Bible verse is often misquoted.
"The love of money is A root of all kinds of evil."
It means that some people will love money above all other things. And this will lead them to do all kinds of evil just to get money. They will back stab, cheat, lie, etc.
This kind of person will also love things and use people instead of loving people and using things.
Being rich is not evil. Solomon was pretty well off. So was Abraham. Jacob was a really good businessman and his flocks reflected that.
The Bible tells us to not have any gods above God - that means that we are not to love "stuff" of any kind (money, sex, cars, football, work, Internet, etc) more than God. If we do love some "god" above God, then our priorities get messed up, and evil has a way into our lives

I'm currently reading a book called "Atlas Shrugged". It makes a very strong point of this topic. Money itself is not the root of evil. Yes the desire for money and only money allows someone to do that which others see as evil without even thinking twice about it. But you are not such a person. You desire the money for what it represents. Money is a representation of a service. It allows you to exchange your services for someone elses. You don't love money. You love achievment. Those who love money care for nothing else.

Of course money is necessary to live. Loving money can lead to evil things like greed, boastfulness, envy, and self-centeredness. However doing charitable things are good because you are not focused on your own material things.
Rich people aren't always the most caring people. For example, many people on the MSN money message boards are greedy, rich know-it-alls.

I work in the financial services industry and have a 6-7 figure income potential and I'm only intrested in what money provides and that is freedom and options. People only use the root of all evil clich'e because they resent not HAVING money and makes them feel better.

love of money isn't the root of every evil..
for example, if you peep on someone's bathroom, that's evil and is not related with money..
if you tell a lie about something that is not related with money, it is still evil..
love of money isn't the root of every evil, just most evil. lol...
you will do anything because of it..
