Why do they let us vote on the best answers?

I refuse to pick a "best answer" when nobody can come up with a >> valid << answer for my questions. (For instance I ask how to do something in Linux and some bloke tells me how to do it in Windows XP, and he's the only answer. No way am I picking a totally useless answer as a best answer.)
Otherwise... I dunno.

i think sometime people get busy, or their accounts get suspended. That happened to me and when I got back, the worst possible answer had been picked as best answer. I was sick with disgust.

I know, it's silly, like they don't go back and read the answers and get the best one

becuz i dont make time for it..rather just answer the questions. i am very indecisive and find it hard to choose the best answer sometimes

Because we don't want to play the favorites game, we kinda have a lot of "friends" who answer and don't want to slight anybody.
