subtitles on DVD movies shown on a Bravia TV?

Question

I bought a Sony Bravia TV, when I play a foreign film on my DVD
the subtitles come out only partially.
Has anyone run into this problem?
I am thinking that the DVD player is not compatible with the Bravia.
anybody has had an experience like this one?

Matador,

My son has the Bravia 42" LCD and when he plays a film with subtitles on his Sony DVD player they are O.K.

I can't testify for any other combination.
