I have used a remote connection to my work computer through redirectme.net but don't really understand how it works. The host computer is running Xp and has pcAnywhere installed.

My question is when I remote in what service on XP is actually recieving the connection? I do not think it is actually using pcAnywhere...

Also i just did some security updates on the host and now I can no longer remote in. Any ideas?

I believe redirectme.net (info at http://www.no-ip.com) is one of many dynamic DNS services. They allow you to have a fixed DNS name (pcanywhere-myhome.redirectme.net, for example) associated with the often-changing dynamic IP address your internet service provider gives to your home router. However, that's typically used when you want to connect to your HOME machine (varying IP address) from your WORK machine (sitting behind a corporate firewall and a dedicated internet connection and typically has a fixed IP address or a very small range of IP addresses).

As for the security updates, if possible try using a second clientmachine on the same network as your host computer to see if PCAnywhere is affected. If a second client machine has problems connecting to the host, then I believe PCAnywhere got clobbered by the update -- try uninstalling and re-installing. When that doesn't work, contact Symantec.
