name calling, criticizing, blaming, controlling, being neglectful, physical abuse, deliberately hurting and insulting, not caring, refusal to communicate or work through difficulties with each other, etc...

I define emotional abuse as consistent deliberate hurtful acts and/or words towards the person one claims to love, OR complete neglect for the other person's feelings or contentedness.

"Emotional abuse refers to a long-term situation in which one person uses his or her power or influence to adversely affect the mental well-being of another. Emotional abuse can appear in a variety of forms, including rejection, degradation, isolation, corruption, exploitation, and invoking terror." (see link below)

Example: A guy who starts fights with his wife making her chose between him and her friends and family until she is isolated from others and has no support system left. She is left with only him for emotional support. He then blames her for everything that goes wrong from dinner not being exactly right to why he had a bad day at work. He begins to only give negative comments, takes his anger out on her then tells her it is his fault he gets mad.
