"The state of Israel was proclaimed by the Jewish leader, David Ben Gurion, on May 14, 1948, and officially came into being on the 15th, after British Mandatory rule ended at midnight. In many minds, the birth of Israel is closely identified with the Nazi terror in Europe and the Holocaust, but in fact the conception of and planning for a Jewish state had begun some 60 years earlier."
And Egypt, Syria, Transjordan, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Lebanon attacked on May 15. They fought Israel for the next eight months, eventually drawing to a stalemate and a cease-fire. All but one of those maintains a theoretical "state of war" with Israel to this day. Meanwhile, Israel has won every battle.

In 1948 David ben Gurion, Israel's president, formally declared Israel was re-established as a sovereign nation.

Definately Google (or other search): Israel (history of, etc.), David ben Gurion, the United Nations, Jerusalem Post, and the like.

Sometime in the 1940's. It's all due to the Zionist plan that has been organized and in place since the late 1800's. Many of our large corporations are supporters of Zionism and contribute to political campaigns unspeakable amounts of money through lobbyist groups such as AIPAC. Did you know that you can go to Israel, if you are a Jew, from any country in the world, free airfare, free housing for one year, and free guided assistance to help you find a job? All on our US tax dollars?? It's called Aliyah. Or the return "home". But if you are a Palestinian returning home you are lucky if they let you in. I agree, stop sending my tax dollars to the Terrorist Israel!!!!!!!!!!
