You are my son's age - tho he eats non-stop - his metabolism keeps him slim. You might try a fruit, yogurt, an energy bar - Trader Joes has some good ones, salad, there are actually lots of things you can eat...hope that helps....don't get too crazy - eat healthy and get some exercise & you'll be fine. :)

You can think of every food you eat as being part of one of three categories:
Protein
Carbohydrate
Fat

You basically want a good balance of the three. For a basic meal (depending on your weight - I'm giving you what my own formula is) you want about 40 grams of complex carbs, about 20 grams of lean protein, and about 5 grams of good fats.

Lean protein = egg whites, tuna packed in water, chicken breast, turkey breast, lean beef, seitan, tofu.
Complex carbs = brown rice, whole grain bread, fresh fruits & veggies, oatmeal, etc. Avoid anything that is too processed. Avoid anything that has a lot of sugar in it. (Check the labels. The fewer ingredients, the better)
Good fats = nuts (unless, of course, you're allergic) olive oil, fish oil (like from salmon or cod) It's relatively easy to get enough fat in your diet. It's difficult to get GOOD fat if you are eating fast food or eating from a school cafeteria. Bringing your lunch sounds like a good plan.

Here's an idea of what I would think is a good lunch:
Tuna packed in water on whole grain bread. (You can make a tuna salad w/ chopped celery, onion, and just a little bit of lowfat mayonnaise. Use a tablespoon of fat-free plain yogurt in addition to the mayonnaise to bind the tuna salad together)
An apple
A small portion of peanuts (if you're not allergic) or almonds. Try dry-roasted or, tamari-roasted.
No chips! No dessert! I know it might seem boring, but let your apple be your dessert. And, very importantly: NO SODA!!! Not only is most soda crammed full of sugar, it is crammed full of the worst kind of sugar: high fructose corn syrup. Not only is h.f.c.s. extremely high in calories, it appears to work on the system in a way that increases one's chance of both obesity and adult-onset diabetes. If you must drink a flavored drink, choose a diet soda, or a calorie-free flavored water. Before you drink a 'juice' check the label. If it says it is a 'cocktail' or a 'juice beverage' chances are it has high fructose corn syrup in it. You'll be better off with water, or unsweetened iced tea.

Another thing you can do is get a bunch of chicken breasts and roast them in the broiler. Wrap them separately and use them for lunch. You don't need to make a sandwich of it: chicken breast all by itself can be quite good. Or you can cut it up and make a salad, with, I don't know, maybe some grapes, some celery, some fat free plain yogurt, maybe some sunflower seeds.

It is also better to eat many small meals each day than eating 'three square meals' Try for 6 smaller meals rather than 3 big meals.

Also, do NOT eat at least 2 hours before going to bed. Eating and going to bed is a sure way to gain weight. It can also exacerbate insomnia.

Finally, diet alone is not enough. You need exercise as well. Half an hour of vigorous exercise (that which makes you sweat) is a good start. Brisk walking. Running. Riding a bike. Walking/running on a treadmill: all good choices. They have found out that swimming doesn't seem to do much for helping one lose weight. I'm not saying that swimming isn't good for you - it is - but it doesn't count in the family of aerobic exercise.

Hope this helps...

Mike,

It is good you are aware of your weight needs. The most important factor is always drink water, and drink water with you food. (8 glass)
it's ok to have a little heavy lunch, provided you burn the calories off by early afternoon.

Salad w/ oil and vinegar, corn mix with peas and add pepper. Non-fat peanut butter/ non-fat jelly, a slice of pie and low fat milk.
I hope that's helps.

God Bless.
