Ok, so tomorrow I have to present a huge project in front of about 20 people. I am very nervous and shy...need some tips!

P.S. The "imagine them in their underwear" thing doesn't work...!

As you walk into the room, look around at everyone to size them up. Do this with a confident smile in your eyes like you're shopping, because you are. Think of them as the challenge. You're working the puzzle of how to convince them to love you.

You do this by dividing the room into thirds. Find one person to speak to in each third. The people around them will think you are looking directly at them. You become persuasive.

When you make eye contact with people, they like you more and are willing to accept what you say. Then you endear yourself to them with your confidence and personality.

You do this best by knowing your material so you can look at the audience and not at your stuff. If you keep your eyes buried in your stuff, you will make yourself miserable up there, and people watching your inadequacy will compound the misery. Memorize as much as you can if not everything. Good luck!

I almost failed my speech class in high school, so I just picked one person in the class to give my speech to, I was comfortable with her and her only, I adjusted all my attention on her for the first couple of minutes while speaking, then I would try to look away from her but had to always go back to her. I finally got through the speech. Thank God. Good luck tomorrow. Now after 20 years I laugh at myself. A couple of years ago I gave a speech to an auditorium filled with more than 3000 people. I was a little nervous but really enjoyed it.

Oh yes it is helpful to take small cue cards with your notes written on them, but you must read your information a couple of times tonight, and in front of someone if you can. Good Luck

PS: Drink plenty of water and you must also well prepared for your presentation! Good Luck! Best wishes...

Xanax.

Seriously, though, it would work.

Anyway, just pretend you are confident. They won't know the difference. And know that most people are just as nervous as you and would do a comparable job.

Focus on one person only. Ignore the others.
