My son has been battling an ear infection. He was on amoxicillian and that did nothing, I took him back and he was put on some new medication, azithromax I believe it was called. Yesterday was his last day of the medication and he has seemed to be doing fine. He was at the doctor for his 6 month shots yesterday and the doctor said his ear was still a little bit pink. But tonight when it came to bed time, he cried and was fussy, which isn't normal for him. That's how he acted when his ear was bothering him.

So, I was wondering...could he be teething or could it be pain from his shots still or could he be teething?? I feel like I take him to the doctor over every little thing (and 99% of the time I'm right).

My son just turned 6 month old on the 14th but was born 8 weeks early so his corrective age is 4 months, is that to early to start teething?

Your son probably is teething...babies start teething often way before they actually cut teeth. And there is NO certain age as to when they should cut the teeth either.

Mine started at different ages from each other. I have five sons if that explains that lol. one at 5 months, one at 9 months, one at 14 months, one at six months, and the last one at 13 months....that's when they actually started breaking teeth through their gums.

Teething is painful and their pediatrician explained it to me like this: Imagine someone taking a dull knife and pushing it slowly thorough your gums from the inside out! (OUCH!)

Teething causes excessive drooling, saliva production in the mouth and when your child lies down it drains in the back of the throat and then can fall into the ear canal which is a very small distance away. This can then pool in the ear canal and cause an infection!

So even if this is nothing but teething related...an ear infection can be a result of that too. The same with a constant cough or fever...crankiness, and sleeplessness.

I have taken the popsicles that you get thawed from the store and freeze yourself and let my kids chew on them--still in the plastic! lol. I let them chew and gum them till they thaw out again and just refreeze them!

Frozen bath clothes work well too...also, Humphrey's III from walgreens (you have to ask the pharmicist to order it for you if they don't have it out) It's all natural and works wonders! Tiny pellets that you melt in a little spoon of water. I used to put it into the medicine type pacifiers and let them suck it out that way.....

Good luck to you! And keep an eye on his ear infection and teething.

That is the right age for teething. Give him a cold teething ring or rag like the other person said. Maybe even some Tylenol to help ease the pain so he can sleep. It could just be the shots though. when my son had his 6 mon shots he was fussy for 2 days after. good luck. There's nothing worse than your kid being sick.

I am glad that you take the baby to the doctor when something doesn't seem right to you. You are a good mother keep up the good work. You know your baby more than anyone else and if you thinks something isn't isn't right take him back to the doctor again. I always tell my daughter the same thing concerning my grandson. It is better to go to the doctor for no reason than not to go and your child really sick and you didn't take them. ear infection generally are worse at night because when the child lies down it causes the ear pressure and pain. Give some Tylenol/Advil pediatric. If you have any ear drops for pain, instill them before lying the baby down. Best wishes to you and your baby.

when my son was born you could already see part of his tooth... it is just different from child to child... some start soon like my soon did and some it takes a little while... but yes he could be teething... get him some teething rings or something for him to naw on.... if he stops crying then youll know... or wash your hands and rub your finger tip on his gums and see if he likes it... if he does... hes probably teething.... if his doctor said that his ear was still a little red then he/she should have given him some more medication.... until it clears up... i just went through the same ear infection with my 10 month old.... also buy some orgel for him... it could be from his shots as well... did you give him something for a fever before you took him? if not then start doing that everytime you take him for his checkups when they give him a shot.... that will help.... and then give it to him 4 hours or so after you gave it to him before the shots.... try that and i hope that it helps

for teething they dont go by a corrective age. he is just 6 months. corrective age only applies to like weight, developmetal, anyways. 6 months is not too early to start teething. my son was 3 1/2 month when he started and broke a tooth a week before he was 4 months old. also just to let you know my dr told me that a baby will not run a fever higher than 100.4 when the fever is due to teething. try some orajel. but since he just got shots he can be grumpy too. i had a pediatrician tell me to keep my baby on tylenole for 24 hours after getting vaccinated, to help with compfort

nope not too young between 4-6 months is the average..... i just took my 10 week old son to the doctor yesterday because we thought that he had an ear infection and it turns out that he's teething already!!!! the doctor said that she can feel one on the top. my little guy is just growing up way too fast

i think that he didn't get the memo that he's a baby because he came home from the hospital already holding his head up and he was very alert and now this!!!!

My brother was born with teeth... but most babies start at 3-4 months... so he's right on schedule, poor guy. Sounds to me like the ear infection is acting up... I'd call the doctor.. .not worth taking a chance on his hearing later on in life..

That's not too early...I have three children, the eldest cut his first tooth at about 7 months, my daughter was about 5.5 months, and my youngest was 4 months...he had two teeth before he was 5 months old. One thing that can help them...I used to put a wet facecloth into a Ziploc baggie, and stick in the freezer...They could chew on that 'til their hearts content...it was cold, and hard, and it was just water...Good luck...

That is exactly the age babies start teething. Between 4-7 months of age. That's probably what it is. Give him a cold rag and let him suck on that. Or use baby oragel (sp). Good Luck, poor little guy.
