There can't be just one....but 'Braveheart' is the first that comes to mind. 'The Godfather' set are classics as well.

The new Epic:
Fellowship of the Ring - A group of ordinary people accept a perilous quest to destroy a terrible cursed object before their psyches and the world are destroyed by a nearly invincible conqueror. To do so they must travel far, through shadow and flame. And the farther they go, the more difficult their journey seems to become.

Although I feel the first movie will stand the test of time, I'm not so sure about the next two.

Of course, the old epic is pretty good too:

The Ten Commandments - The orphaned son of a slave is found and raised as egyptian royalty. Later, he discovers his true roots and leads the bound hebrews out of Egypt. Along the way he finds the ten commandments and finally brings his people to a new land to settle.

For Love Stories: An Affair to Remember starring Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr (this movie is really timeless...)

Drama: I would say The Godfather series starring Al Pacino

for other genres... still got to think it over...

Coco mentions Gone with the Wind and Casablanca... these are two other great movie classics that i like...
