Like any other sport goalies have their ups and downs more so then any other player on a hockey team. But there are a few goalies who have been on the top of their game for a while now.

1. Martin Brodeur. Every year, near the tops in league wins, save percentage, GAA, and shutouts. No one else is in his rear view mirror now. Multiple cups, no one else is close to him.

2. Roberto Luongo. Not much behind Brodeur but he is because of his lack of playoff appearances. When it comes to making a team better, hes the one. Plays tonnes of minutes, makes tonnes of saves. Look at his numbers from Florida, lead the leagues in games, minutes, and saves. He saw more rubber then a dead skunk on the interstate. When he gets on a real good team, you will see the difference he makes. Look at the difference in Vancouver already.

3: Dominik Hasek. He gets the nod here for career work and stats this year. Yes he is playing on a great team again, but listen to players, they still say he gets in their head. Remember the run Buffalo had to the Cup against Dallas? There were interviews with players who head Hasek in their head. If your thinking about a goalie and what hes capable of, good luck. He still plays head games with the leages best.

4. Mikka Kiprusoff. Hes easily been the fastest riser over the last few years. But he is extremely quick, agile, and covers the net well. He is the sole reason the Flames made that cup run years ago. His regular season stats are comparable to the best so it is obvious that he should be mentioned with them. Like Luongo he is valuable to his team for his endurance. Who is the backup in Calgary?? Not too many people know this because of how well mika plays and how many starts he has!

5. JS Giguere. Giguere has had only 2 real significant regular seasons to date. The one that he added on the magnificent cup run to the finals, and this year. Now this year is a bit easier with the team that is in front of him. Arguably 2 of the best Dmen of all time in front of him and lighnting fast team that controls the play as well as anyone. He is a solid goalie who plays angles and plays them outstanding. He deserves to be mentioned here for what hes done and what he is currently doing for anaheim this season. He is great for the team they have there cause they can give up odd man rushes and he can cover for them.

Honourable mention: Marty Turco. And the main reason Marty Turco doesnt get in the top 5, is his playoff collapses of past years. Poor guy doesnt deserve the rap hes getting but he has had some tough times in the playoffs. Now I now that I have Luongo rated number 2 and hes got no playoff success either but its apparent that Luongo is heads and shoulders above many goalies in the NHL. Turco is as well, as he is a lesser version of Marty Brodeur. Great puck handler and refelx goalie. Its amazing to think that single season record holder for save percentage from i htink 3 years ago, doesnt even scratch the top 5 goalies now. But those are my top 5. Miller doesnt get in yet, but hes very close (hes like a grant fuhr right now, makes the stops thye need). Hope that helps ya out. PS Calgary's backup goalie is Jamie McLennan. Total time played.... 6 Games or 353 minutes. And how about Marty Brodeur... his back up Scott Clemmensen has played in 3 games for a total of 150 MINS. Nuts, but thats why these guys are the best.

Without a doubt the top goaltender in the nhl today is Martin Broduer.
I'm sorry about people who believe that Hasek or Kippers should be in the same group as him, but realistically Brodeur should be 1,2,3,4, and 5 on the list.

although a lot of people want to give the Hart to Mr. Crosby and he will likely win it, i think Martin Brodeur should be this season's MVP.
I noticed a lot of people's top 5's had some good goalies in them, but not the best and not in the right order...
So, With that said, here's my TOP 10. (in order), so that everyone can see what the actually order should be FOR THIS SEASON.

1. Martin Brodeur
2. Roberto Luongo
3. Mikka Kipprusoff
4. Dominik Hasek
5. J.S. Giguere
6. Marc Andre Fluery
7. Tomas Vokoun
8. Rick Dipietro
9. Ryan Miller
10. Chris Mason

Here is the simple reality

1. Roberto Luongo- He would be considered the best in the game by EVERYONE, but who has he played for? Crap teams...and yes, I said it. Vancouver is nothing special. And if you think Florida was any good while Luongo was there, you must be on drugs or something. I have been watching Luongo for years and he has never ceased to amaze me.

2. Broduer- A little older and a little wiser. Enough said.

3. Vokoun- Many don't understand this pick, but many people also don't look at what he did with Mason. Chris Mason has turned into quite the goalie with the help from the Pred's #1. I also don't think he has the defense that goalies such as Kiprusoff has.

This is where it gets messy.

4. Manny Fernandez- Being from Minnesota, this is a relatively hard choice. I can see people thinking that I'm some joke who is just plugging the players from his hometown team. But it is not true in this circumstance. Honestly, I don't need to advertise for him. Watch the Wild play a few games. They have more than enough skill to upset some teams(And I do honestly believe that the Wild are a cup contender this year). But beyond that, there is a reason that the Wild got rid of Roloson. Was it surprising to Minnesotans that Roli was traded? Not one bit.

5. Marty Turco- This was an even tougher choice because he holds the title of "World's Worst Playoff Goalie Ever." He is only in my top 5 because of the fact that he actually broke the playoff slump last year by winning a series. We don't even need to mention his amazing regular season stats over the past couple of years.

1- Martin Brodeur, what can you say about this guy, going on another 40 wins season the most in the history of the NHL and to the people thinking he plays with an defencive team well look at his stats he faces the most shots per game and has faced the most shots all season long to any other goalie in the league.

2- Roberto Luongo, Bad start of the season but know is showing why he is considered one of the best in the world.

3- Miikka Kiprusoff, is finally getting in the zone and is one of the best and if hes in top form come playoffs watch out for the Flames to be a serious contender.

4- Marc-Andre Fleury, Yes he has great offence in Crosby and Malkin, but there D-Men arent the greatest more of an offencive team. Fleury is living up to expectations.

5- Marty Turco, Dallas is lucky Turco is on his game cause the Stars are ranked 29th in the league with 149 GF and without Turco's great performence the Stars would be near last place.

the reason i don't pick Hasek and Giguere are good reasons. 1- both on great offencive teams and can leave in 3 goals a game without worrying about losing the game, Hasek faces an avg. of 20 shots a game and any goalie would be in heaven to face that many shots. yes Giguere is having a great year too, but don't forget he has arguably the top 2 defencemen in the league in front of him and an offence that can score any time. 2- the top 5 i've picked is because they have to work harder then Hasek and Giguere, and to the people that pick them as the top goalies are just going by there stats which doesnt mean everything when you look at the teams they play for.

Hock69>>>>>i don't know what playoff series you were watching last year but Turco and the Stars didn't win a series last year they lost in the first round.

and to the people that keep thinking Ryan Miller is that good give me a break i don't like any of the other teams that i picked with the top 5 goalies but get serious, yes he has 28 wins but it wouldnt be thast hard if you have the top scoring team in the NHL with 273 GF and with a GAA of 2.65 and a SP% of .913 and only one SO shows that if he was on even the Devils he would be back in the minors cause he wouldnt be able to do what Brodeur is doing. IF YOU WANT TO TALK OVERRATED THEN LOOK NO FURTHER THEN RYAN MILLER. and you look at Hasek and Giguere yes they have an offence in front of them to, but at lest their numbers are way better then Miller's.

1) Brodeur-- He'll go down as one of the best goalies ever, probably number 2 behind Patrick Roy.
2) Luongo-- Continues to impress despite never having a solid defense in front of him
3) Kipper-- The West's version of Brodeur, putting up top-notch numbers on a defensive team.
4) Hasek-- #2 when he is healthy.
5) Vokoun-- And the Preds are the best team in the NHL right now.

Jaroslav Halak!! nah im kidding but this kids gonna be great
hes already 2-0-0 and looking real good n confident... anyways, top 5 goalies in the NHL would probably be:

1. Luongo
2. Giguère
3. Vokoun
4. Kiprusoff
5. DiPietro

but its so hard to chose just 5, plus all goalies have ups n downs so its really tough to pick...

I also thought id just mention that Chris Mason has the best Save Percentage in the league right now, thats pretty impressive
