My sweet fiance has been painstakingly trying to teach me to whistle. I know it sounds silly but I have wanted to whistle since I was little girl. We have tried everything. I make the smallest, roundest hole possible with my lips, blow out air softly, and keep my tongue at the back of my mouth resting against my top teeth, per his instructions.
Does anyone have any other suggestions? Has anyone ever taught themselves to whistle or know anyone who simply cannot?

One out of four of my son's cannot whistle, he's 24 now.

Whistling is a learned process, your fiance used very good instructions....Maybe this will help.
Do the "little hole with lips" thing, but this time try breathing in air through the hole rather than breathing air out of it and make sure your lips are moist. Do this very slow...if this doesn't work...Keep practicing till it does.

Yup. Some people cannot curl their tongue enough to produce a whistling sound. Something about the thickness, I think.

I am just now starting to whistle, and I'm in my 20's. But I've always long suspected that I may be retarded.

i know someone who simply cannot whistle: me. I have tried almost my whole life and have not made a decent whistle yet. I read your question and tried to follow your fiance's directions and no luck, but I wish you luck.

keep trying thats what i had to do start my holding your breath
then just make the air go out through the your smal round lips

I can not whistle. In my opinion its a talent that people have it.and some don't
