I have two questions i can not find anywhere and i just dont know them! If you could please help me i would love it!!

1) In Scene 2 of Act 3, Macbeth describes his surroundings by saying "Light thickens, and the crow Makes wing to th' rooky wood." How can those remarks also be seen as a metaphorical commentary on the events in the play? What other remarks by Macbeth function in this way?

2)How does the banquet scene blur the clear-cut and common sense distinction that most of us make between the real and imaginary? In what other scenes has this distinction also been blurred?

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR HELPING!

Every 5-act play is split into the following sections (more or less): Introduction, Rising Action, Climax, Falling Action, and Resolution. Act 3 is typically the climactic act. After that, things begin to go downhill. Macbeth, in Act 3, is still at the peak of his power but has realized that soon things will begin to go downhill. The banquet scene with Banquo symbolizes the downhill movement. Macbeth dreamed of being King and became King. Now he has the nightmare that he will be deposed. And eventually he is deposed. In Macbeth's life, the distinction between reality and fantasy is non-existent. Whatever he desires and/or fears becomes real.

not so sure about #1...The light thickening might be seen as a metaphor in that light is gradually shed on Macbeth's evil doings as more and more people find out about it.

2) In the banquet scene, Macbeth sees the ghost of Banquo. While most people would know and understand that the ghost of Banquo was not REALLY sitting there and interacting with him, Macbeth did not. Rather, he speaks to him as if he were an actual living guest. This confuses the other guests, because they see Macbeth speaking to an empty chair. This distinction has also been blurred in the beginning of the play (not sure which scene, sorry) where Macbeth is described as "rapt" when talking to Banquo about the witches' predictions. He is not listening to what Banquo is saying; rather, he is in his own little world. He comes out of his thoughts occasionally to speak with Banquo, but keeps sinking into his own fantasy of becoming king one day.

Light thickens it means like the dawn is breaking. You know when the sun rises it's as if it is thickening in the horizon. I'm not too sure about the crow though/
