Such meticulous care is taken by society and parents in avoiding putting a child in harm's way that an event like this would be extremely rare. My personal situation is such that there would be nothing to prevent me from protecting the child. But then again, when young people were slaughtering elders in Pol Pot's killing fields I may have found myself in the position of protecting an elder from a younger person.

Protecting the "community of women and children" is also a very good reason for taking up arms against invading aggressors.

I don't believe that an abstract circumstance of mortal jeopardy would necessarily dictate that I must sacrifice my own life that the child live; it is preferrable that all human life be preserved. If there was no possible way both of us live, my payment goes to new life.

I have my own children to worry about, and they need me more than any child I may or may not know. I know it is mean but if I were to give up my life for a child it better be the life of my own child. I would try my best to help the child though if that makes it any better. Oh and by the way people are not greedy with their lives just because they will not die for an unknown child, I am very sure they have their reasons not to do so as do I. My children being mine. So the 16 year old (Kelster) that said this does not know what she is saying, for her to be willing to do this at such a young age, she must feel that no one else needs her presence. And I am only 23.

I have no doubts at all that I would go forward and save any child's life...Children and animals (pets and all) depend on the mature adult to care for them. If this child made a wrong choice then it is up to me to help them out. Circumstances don't matter...a child's life is at stake here. How could one just stand by and watch a child die? How could one walk away from that scenario? I respect peoples' answer of 'no' because we are not made from the same mold. My age may be a factor but, I don't remember a time that I didn't think this way! It is just being me.

The in any circumstances part is the part that make me say no. I would not go looking for a child's life to save because a child is dying. I think maybe I would risk my life if it was a quick decision situation, but I dont think that anyone in that situation thinks that they are going to die; just save a child.

There is no such thing as "any circumstances." If someone was trying to kill me or kill my child, then I would not save that person, child or not. Under certain circumstances, however, I may. I've come close at least once, already, but I wasn't allowed to give my life for my child's.

Yes.

For example, I would never know my unborn child by I could see myself dying in child birth if that child would survive because of it.

I also run into car accidents to help people out I have never met before. Car explodes. I die. I know that but if i don't try they may die. Why should I let that happen if I can prevent it?

And metaphorically speaking I have been dead for years taking care of so other people so that they could continue to live. They haad a life I did not.

how about his question. there is a train filled with people, the train needs to be changed onto the other tracks or everone will die. it's your job to change the train onto the other tracks.
suddenly you see your child running toward you on the tracks that that the train must be put onto. do you sacrifice your child to save the hundreds of unsuspecting innnocent people, or do you let them die to save your child? now that's a tough one. i think the right thing to do is save the hundreds, but that would be the hardest decision of your life, and no doubt which ever way you went you would feel regret all your life.

It's hard to answer your question though, you can say you would, but if the time came to do so, would you do it? you might not...

I will be honest and say that at this point of my life I woudnt.
maybe if things were diffrent.
but now I know it would be unfair of me to do. not because I mind dying, I am fine with that, though I am only 19 I have no issue with it (or maybe because I am only 19?)
but dying now would hurt my mother, my sister, my brother, my love, my friends.
it will create a great inbalance in family's already rocky boat.

so there you go...

oh and I forgot something- I care more about those I just mentioned, than a personI have not met or known- for such is human nature.

good day to you too :)

Ideally speaking, yes. In reality, I am still living although there would have been such circumstances. Mind is a complex thing and one does not know how it will behave under a given situation.

I kinda like to think I would. I've lived longer and they should have the chance to live thier life. If it was my time to go, God would lead me to save that child. It's God's will as to whether or not I would save the child.
