It is just an act to make the program more interesting.
But, when they judge, both seem very sincere to me.
Specially Simon, he is strict in his judgement.
That is what I like in the program. They only choose the good ones.
Outside I think they are the best friends.

It is very much an act to boost ratings. I've been to 2 tapings in the past and during commercial breaks and such, they kid around and act perfectly pleasant. Actually, up close and personal, I think Randy Jackson is the coldest of the AI "cast". He's the least interactive with the audience. Ryan and Simon both seem like really nice, funny guys. And Paula is off in her own world!
Rumor has it that during the American Idol season when Simon is living in LA, he and Ryan hang out around town.

Simon probably really doesnt like Ryan and Ryan is probably one of those guys who thinks it funny to joke around but doesnt realize Simon really does hate him.

I think Simon hates Ryan, and Ryan REALLY wants Simon to like him that he says really stupid things to get his attention...like a second-grader.

Of course its an act. Anything for them to make money. Also it is an attempt for them to get more ratings! They better do something because it is wack this year and they may lose viewers.
