How do I restore the internet

My friend once had a virus on his laptop(im not going to say how) so he restarted the computer . After this he lost his wireless connection. Where it normally shows the dial up connection he used to have an ethernet wireless connector. He still has the router that he can plug into the laptop

The dial up connection doesn't work, it doesn't need to.
He has no ip address as shown in
1. run
2. cmd
3. ipconfig/all

It says instead that the modem connection is missing even when the router is plugged in to the left of the computer.
How would he restore the internet so I can kick his @ in Unreal tournament?

Try making sure the wireless adapter is still installed. I'll assume you know where Device Manager is. Check to see if the adapter is installed under Network Adapters. If it isn't, or it is not recognized, you need to reinstall the drivers. If it is there, try reinstalling the drivers. Also, some laptops have a switch on them to turn off the wireless adapter. If your friend's laptop has an integrated card, check to make sure the switch is on.

My dad is like this: he uses ethernet at work and wireless at home. I suggest trying to re-install the card but if that doesn't work, did you try System Restore? If he doesn't have Windows XP or doesn't know a thing about system restore or it just doesn't work, you probably have to use Safe Mode.
