I am looking to build a bike and am curious as to the pros/cons of the S&S and the RevTech. Which engine is better, american made, whatnot... I am having a heck of a time finding a comparison of the engines. I'm looking in the 96"-110" range. Most likely for a softail, but my main interest in this post is the engine.

The S&S is far better. The Revtech is made in Korea, and I have heard of alot of people having problems with them. I have had friends who have had problems with their engines and transmissions. S&S is the benchmark of the performance side of the industry, but not the show and shine billet side. It's hard to find a better engine, but they aren't cheap. The best motor for the money is the Ultima El Bruto (www.ultimaproducts.com). All American made and well put together. I have heard of people who have had issues with these a couple times, but they get resolved. You take this chance with any manufacturer, even S&S.

Hello Well to answer your question. First what type of riding are you going to do.Long trips, around town or just bar hop. The bigger you go up in inches means less relieablity.I have a s&s 96 inch and i have the 105 horse(stock) at the tire motor and it is in a hard tail. I have added a few things to mine now and i am around 112 -115 horses at the rear tire now.It is great.and my chopper was built for me.And i wanted a 124 s&s and they talk me out of it.I picked the s&s because you can find parts anywhere you go.and same for the carbs.you can find parts anywhere too.Plus the warrenty is great on s&s. I stayed away from wierd numbered inch motors.I reseached the 96 inch and it was a better buy than the 107 111 and 113.They put in the 585 cams and gave them close to as much horse power as most 113s.If you are looking for more horse power I would bore and boost your s&s and the guys at XXX carberaturs can do that for 125 to bore and boost and then what ever shippings is. oh and look up oilf fliters by PURE POWER. I have one and it raise my horse power 7 horses and 10 pounds of torgue. And i use their oil too.I have one of there carbs and they are great.I hope i have helped you.

Speaking from personal expeirience, S&S is a much better engine. S&S has been around for 50 years and has the V-Twin down quite well I've run them and used them in bikes I've built. More H.P. per inch than the Rev Tech. The Rev Tech is a really good buy,one can get a polished motor and 6 speed for under 6,000.00 if you shop around. You'll pay that for a natural S&S.
I run a T.P. 121 currently it Kicks Serious A $$, another good one is Patrick Racing.
Of the 2 you mention S&S is better . ** as Stretch said ,The problems we had on my GF's engine were taken care of ,but it was time consuming and a hastle (Still runs very hot even with an oil cooler)

S&S has been around for 50 years now, owned by the 3rd generation of the same family. It's the benchmark of the industry.
Harley has even encorporated some of S&S's technology into their own line.
Rev-Tec is made in South Korea. A co-worker had some problem with his, an oil leak at one of the bolts that bolt the case halves together. It was under warrenty, and they made good, but he was down for a while until they DID make good.
I'm running a 107 S&S, no problems after 5000 miles.

Go to jirehcycle.com and order their catalog. They sell both engines and have specs for both.I've never heard anyone complain about a Rev Tech but I have heard some about S&S.You could go with a Harley motor and parts would always be avaliable.

RevTech. I have tried both and my current scoot is full of RevTech parts that have been ridden hard and rough for 3 years and never a failure, never a breakdown. Need to stay on top of normal maintenance and keep it right in tune though, but that is true of even a stock scoot. Either way, enjoy.
