They might consider some joint ventures to save money and facilities. Right now they are being clobbered by the myth that foreign cars have better quality.
NAH.
I have several neighbors driving American cars with more than 100,000 miles and no problems. What more do you want?
Buy American, Save America
Buy Foreign, Bury America

True story about Chevrolet making parts for ford and how they started, Did you also know the first Ford vehicles had engines made by the Dodge Brothers?
GM will not buy Chrysler or Ford, and the same goes for them all. They may share technology like they have in the past, but they will not become a part of one another in a company stand point. Chrysler is doing better then GM in the ways of making new and exciting designs and bringing back the "retro" ideas (Chrysler 300, and the Charger, and prototypes of the Challenger and the Imperial), Ford is following the example and also bringing back the "retro" look (Mustang, T-Bird (although it didn't make it in the retro market, too ahead of the times, i guess) and prototypes for the Ranchero) GM is ending the "retro" craze (with the new Camero and ideas for the El Cameno).
The big 3 will never die because of what the government will do to keep them alive. Its a "you scratch my back, i'll scratch yours" kind of deal. The government has bailed the big 3 out before and this is no different. Ford, Chrysler, and GM bring in so much money for the government, its in the governments best intrests to keep them going. The 3 together are a tripod for the ameriacn econmy, if one is taken away or moved around to much, the entire will fall. Its only a matter of time before the american market takes back over the american market and emerges in the number 1, 2, and 3 spots. Its only a matter of time before the big 3 will be back fighting each other on who has the best mussel car, or who has the best race car and the imports will be no compition for them. this may take 15, 25, or even 50 years for this to happen, but the government will not let the big 3 go. Letting go of the big 3 is like letting a child go when they are drowning, nothing good comes from it, and the loss will be huge.

GM has talked to Honda and Nissan in the past. Plus look at how big GM is and how many other companies they have swallowed up over time all over the world.
But like any big giant, the bigger you get, the more food it takes to feed you. That is where GM is now. Bigger than its own hands can feed her.
So their logic is to buy another division to add to the mix.
But there is no logic in that. For 1......over 50% of the people who like GM for GM will no longer buy GM due to being a Mopar mix. Same with the Mopar guys.....they won't want to be with the GM, so they will go elsewhere for cars. You never hear that Chevy use to make parts for Ford....thats taboo...but true. Its how Chevy started....as a parts maker.
So now that means both sides lost sales and neither side gained those sales yet they are still big and hungry. What happens? Collapse. (same thing will happen to walmart soon too, and that one is gonna be felt world wide)
If either of them were smart, and they aren't, they would cut the games and hack big salary jobs up top. Restructure it all, stop this 50 different models and options, get back to basics. Just make 4 or 5 cars and trucks and make them good, real good.
Or even better.....stop making gas cars all together and actually bring forward true electric technology or even the water powered versions (yes, they are true, youtube it). Then they can instantly corner the market and take the power from the oil giants that currently have them and us over a barrel.

Chrysler is owned by Daimler...i.e. Mercedes Benz...they call it a merger but it does'nt take a rocket scientist to know that Daimler is bigger on the worldwide scale...compared to Ford and GM..Daimler Chrysler is straight...from Maybach to Benz, Chrysler and Dodge...models are selling...GM needs to work on putting Camaro, Firebird, Chevelle, and Nova back on the streets...market them to young people as well as old....make affordable cars with great gas mileage and performers...the Escalades and Hummers are washed up now....people want more bang for the buck...GM needs a 300C or Dodge Neon SRT

Well, American car companies are struggling right now. GM might try to acquire Chrysler as a way of eliminating competition. It would stink to see this happen.

I would certainly rather see GM buy them than a Japanese firm. I wasn't happy when the Germans bought them! I am more worried, however, that the Chinese will purchase them as a way to get their foot in the US market's door. They are even richer than the Japanese. In a few years we would probably be kissing all the US automakers good bye. We have the power to stop it or slow it down. STOP buying foreign cars. There ARE good US cars! Check them out!

That would be a BIG mistake, as Chrysler sells poorly designed crap, with few exceptions.
GM had better stick with Toyota if they want to stay in business.
