McAffee is reputable. If you're paying for it and keeping it up to date, then that's the true one. But if you're getting pop-ups telling you that you have infected files etc...that's malware.
You need to download and install anti-spyware programs. Go to www.download.com and download Adaware and Spybot Search & Destroy. Install and update these programs and then run each of them individually. Delete everything they find, reboot.
You should be in better shape. If you need a free anti-virus, AVG is a good one. You can download that at the same website.
The main thing with all of these programs it to keep them up to date and run them regularly.

Plain BS by that outfit Stop Sign wanting to sell you junk. Mcaffee is correct, you have nothing in your computer worth worrying about.
I suggest you try TuneUp Utilities, www.tune-up.com There is a free 30 day trial on that and after that it costs $39 a subscription. That is what I use and it is very good. Download to desktop, then burn a CD of it and you will have it for future use.
Stop downloading those kind of junk scans, what they can do is insert aplets and programs into your computer's hidden files which you wont even know about and even damage your operating software programs. You will notice that the same company selling those programs is putting out tons of junk trying to access your computer with Trogans and the like, Its a joke what these outfits do. So stay away from free scans of your Registry.

avast from www.avast.com
AVG from www.grisoft.com
Those are the best free antivirus programs.
I also recommend Ad-Aware SE personal from www.lavasoft.com and Spybot Search and Destroy www.download.com
Beware of programs that pretend to be these. There are many imposters out there that will actually infect your system with spyware and viruses.

personaly I am a nortan man, so I would recomend buying the NIS 07 (or is it 08 now?) and prior to installing it reformat your obviously infected computer...
if you are tight on cash and want a free antivirus,... then AVG ( http://www.grisoft.com )or KasperSky ( http://www.kaspersky.com/ ) are your best bet.
hope this helps
