Wow, looks like some Americans need to brush up on their general knowledge!
The United States has NO OFFICIAL language, but it has many unofficial languages, taught as second languages or spoken by a large part of the population, such as Spanish, Chinese and French.
The United States does not have an official language, but English is generally used for legislation, orders, court rulings, etc..
"Although the United States currently has no official language, English has long been the de facto national language. English is spoken by about 82% of the population as a native language and nearly everyone in the United States uses it as a daily language. On May 18, 2006, the Senate voted on an amendment to an immigration reform bill that would declare English the national language of the United States. "
Before this process can be completed, it will have to return to the House of Representatives in order to be voted upon.
So, there's NO OFFICIAL LANGUAGE, thanks!

The U.S. has no official language, although many things are in English, you will also find signs in other languages such as Spanish or Chinese depending on where you go. At one time in history, an entire school in New York taught in Polish because none of the immigrants' children could speak English (and neither could the teachers or principal for that matter).

There is no legislated official language of the US.
If anything...Money, I think, many people unofficially make the language of the US, because it gets the job done often times.
There are groups like U.S. English, Inc. whose sole purpose is to try to make English the official language of the USA.

American English, the Spanish language hasn't taken over yet, so you people thinking it has, it's no where's close to being an official language of the U.S. and it never will be.
Learn english or get out! Speak your native language amongst your family in the leisure of your home, because I don't know what the hell your talking about :)
I'm not predjudice!

there is no official language in the U.S. the spirit of the founding fathers has been lost in recent years. they knew the population was going to be a diverse mix of many diferent cultures and picking one language would exclude many. for some reason many people believe anyone not exactly like them is wrong. we could learn a lot from our founding fathers.
