If you are looking for something natural or chemical free, good old fashioned steel wool will take it right off.

You can either buy Brillo or SOS pads from your grocery store (the have soap in them, work best with some water), or go over to the hardware store and buy plain steel wool.

I suggest gloves so you don't get metal 'splinters' in your fingers, but it will take the rust right off and shine it up nice and pretty!

Wirebrush or sand off the loose flakey then spray with RustBlast for 20-30 minutes keeping it wet at all times. Rinse til clear. Let DRY completely. To stop rust completely & permanently....
Seal your metal stand with 2 thin coats of Rust Seal. Your rust will never come back. Comes in 8 diff colors. Or Topcoat with ant paint system.

There is a product called Navel Jelly and it really works good. The other alternative is to use some steel wool and elbow grease. You did not say what kind of metal it was Rustolum could cover the problem and stop the rust according to the spray can. Hope that this helps.
