You may be right, but I usually think of 'socializing' as being in a conversational or interaction type of way. I'd rather like to think of the media and television (movies, sitcoms, shows, etc..) as influencing the viewers in different types of ways. Like what we think is beautiful or great.

The positive might be that the more information is fed to people, the more worldy (knowledgeable) they can become.

The negative could depend on how a person's outlook might be.

This leads me to one idea; that the positive and/or negative will most likely depend on each person's outlook, whether they themselves are openminded yet cautious and searching for the truth, or set in their ways and perceiving things the way they 'want' to.

Immigrants can learn to speak English better by watching television.

Children can learn negative stereotypes by watching television.
