It's is possible that one employee could sabotage the production of peanut butter by contaminating hundreds of jars with salmonella. If it was deliberate, I suspect that the person would be motivated by greed.
When a product is tampered with, culprits have often used "put options" to profit by the inevitable stock price drop. If this were the case, I would expect that the FBI would catch the culprit by looking for an unusual activity in the market. (Remember that put options were also used on American Airlines stock before 9/11.)
Perhaps a more likely cause would be poor quality control in this plant. Unfortunately, the motivation to cut costs can lead to quality problems. Salmonella is a very common contaminant.

I ate a container of the so called infected peanut butter. Either I have an extraordinary strong stomach since I did not get sick or this whole thing was a tad over-rated. One of the two.

I ate the stuff and did get sick.No I do not think Iran was responsible for this. If they were we would have been dead by now not just sick. I think it was just poor quality control. For instance I worked in a doctor's office for 15 years. When the Health Dept. would come for inspection, maybe once every 3 years they would call and tell us to expect them sometime in March for example. The system is negligent.

We Americans have become very lax. We have run the small business owner out of business and have entrusted our and our children's well being to corporations. They feed us junk to clog our arteries, make our children fat, create sugar addictions which leads to a host of other maladies. Then after all that they still do not have enough food inspectors. I would suggest reading "The Jungle" by Upton Sinclair. We are headed back to those days if we as CONSUMERS do not wake-up and smell the coffee.

PEANUT BUTTER!!!! its in freakin everything!!!!! if someone wanted to wipe out the population of america, all they'd have to do is poison (or salmonella-ize) all the peanut butter!!!! its a perfect plan!!! americans cant help themselves!!! they'd eat themselves to death!!! soon, all that'd be left of america are ppl allergic to peanuts and the few select ppl who DONT like peanut butter!!!
