If you have a nice maiden name that you love and it sounds good as a first name, then that might be a nice way to keep the name going. However, not all maiden names will make good first names. I wouldn't put my child through years of teasing just to keep the name around.

Would depend on my last name. I have a friend with the last name "Butts". I'm guessing she wouldn't do that to her kids!

I just can't see calling my kid my maiden name for the rest of our lives. It just seems strange. Yes, I've considered it...but something feels wrong about the whole idea.

Only if the maiden name is decent. I think it's tourture to name a child something like Steinburg Smith, Dubrinksky Pulaski, or McKay Washington. Suffice it to say it rarely works... so unless the name has deeply significant meaning I wouldn't recommend it.

I think a maiden name would be better as a middle name than a first name.

So, actually it would make it more like *Eliza* Summer Jones.

With my maiden name? Never. But if my last name was something like Summer, or Jackson or something that lends itself to a first name, then maybe. But my last name is Sizemore, and that would never make a nice first name.

I'd use it as a middle name, but probably not as a first, but that's just me. It would be too weird to call my child by my former last name, even if it was a normal name for a first name. It would be weird for "Summer" to go see "Grandma Summer" and "Grandpa Summer". It's totally up to the parents!

There was a woman in one of my grad classes whose maiden name was Sullivan, and that's what she named her first born son. My married name would work as a first name (not very common, but not unheard of) but I wouldn't use my maiden name as my child's first name. I actually use it as my middle name, so I may do that with my child's name though.

My friends middle name is edwards because it was her mothers maiden name, I like that but not all last names would be good first or middle names.

If I had a short last name Like your's yes. But my last name is 13 letter's long so no I wouldn't do that to my child. But if it sounded like an actual name then a last name Yes I would consider it.
