Who would you put in any of their old roles? DeNiro? Pacino? Redford? Eastwood? Dreyfuss? DeCaprio? Damon? McCaunahey? Gere? Clooney? others?

I'd definitely have to include Tom Hanks in that group, along with Richard Gere; Hanks in particular has an amazing range and depth of skills - think of all the things he's done, and how varied they are! I think Matthew McConnaughey is going to be REALLY big as time passes; he just seems to get better all the time. I thought Harrison Ford would be one of that calibre for a while, but lately I'm not so sure. Robert Redford is certainly at the same level; I think Eastwood is just not an actor with the broad range necessary to be remembered as one of the truly great actors, but he's turned out to be an exceptional director.

I don't think you can compare todays actors with yesterdays actors. Although I do agree about Tom Hanks and Jimmy Stewart.

I think Tom Hanks comes closest to Jimmy Stewart

Otherwise no one really comes close.
