Magic could gaurd small forwards because Magic was 6'9" tall, for starters. If Nash doesn't make his team any better than why does Marion, Stoudemire and several others on the Suns have 20+ games? Tim Duncan got MVP and at the time the only other player on the team that shined was Tony Parker.

Some bizarre answers here, with some equally bizarre spelling/grammar.
1) Steve Nash is 6ft 3in
2) Nash averaged 11.5 assists 2 years ago, 10.8 last year, & 11.8 this year. Compare that to Jason Kidd's 8.3/8.48.7. He is without a doubt the best playmaker in the league at the moment.
3) Without a doubt he makes his team better. Look at their performance WITHOUT Nash.
4) Other contenders would be Bryant & Nowitzki. Unless the Lakers pick up & get moving now, Bryant's out. Which leaves Nowitzki, who is having a career year with the league's best team - he'd be my pick to take it.

The NBA has set a precedent by giving Nash the MVP the last two years. Now, as his team is doing better than the lasts, they almost HAVE to give it to him again because they trapped themselves in a tiny little corner.

He's a great point guard, but undeserving of the MVP for the past 2 years when other viable candidates were available. Jason Kidd did the same thing with New Jersey AND he made it to the finals back to back. He didn't get the MVP, so why did Nash deserve to when he hasn't made the finals once, and with an arguably better supporting cast than Kidd did?

I'd give it to Dirk this year. The man has been passed over too many times. If the Lakers finish in the top four for seeding, I'd give it to Kobe.

Edit: To comment on the below answer, the reason why the Suns are so terrible without Nash is because D'Antoni uses such a shallow lineup. He goes 6 deep. Anytime 1/6 of your rotation is gone and happens to be your main ballhandler, who does that leave to distribute the ball?

Also, my reference to Kidd is not alluding to the past two years, but the 2001-2002 and 2002-2003 seasons where Kidd led a team with one All-Star he created, Kenyon Martin, to the finals.

I believe some people have a (what you would call) crazed obsession of hating Steve Nash (it must be because he is Canandian, but that's a STUPID reason). I don't fall in that category though, and I respect you for being such as well. I also respect everybody's opinions, but Steve Nash is a very hard-working individual. Anybody should know that just by watching him play. He not only makes himself a great player, but the people around him (Shawn Marion, Amare Stoudemaire, etc...). So, YES, he does deserve the MVP award a third time in a row.

Nash should win the MVP Dirk is surrounded by a better team than Nash and Nash plays a bigger role with his team If Nash has an off day Suns lose If Dirk has an off day they are 2-3 other players that can fill in

Because he's a scrawny little 6'0 tall Canadian and him winning the NBA MVP over people like Kobe and LeBron sometimes just doesn't feel right. But we should credit him with thriving in the NBA with a lack of athletic ability. In fact, Steve Nash and I have an extremely similar body type, with I being a bit taller and heavier, but you don't see me winning back to back MVPs. So it's just a gut instinct really. Even though I still think Kobe deserved it last year, Nash is a worthy recipient too.

Because he has not deserved to be an MVP. He's a very good player who has made of what little he was given physically but has never been even close to the best Player in the league. Without a doubt, Kobe should have won the award last year. He just didn't get it because of his off-court issues. Do you really think he is as good as Garnett, Lebron or Kobe. He's probably not even the best player on his team. Amare, I think is better and maybe even Marion

Amare and MAtrix would get 20 points on any team especially if they were on a team that shoots every 7 seconds or faster.

Nash is a product of a system that shoots as quickly as possible without a lot of moves after the catch hence a lot more opportunities for nash to pick up cheap assists without actually creating

Who should have got it instead?

2 years ago Shaq was ROBBED and last year was either LeBron or Kobe

Are they? Steve Nash won back-to-back MVP's fair and square. This year, he's still one of the top MVP contenders and he does have a strong chance of matching Larry Legend's record depending on his performance in this second half of the season. To answer your second question, however, there is one guy who deserves to win it this year and that's Dirk Nowitzki. Dallas has the best record in the entire league and I think Dirk is out to prove himself after practically disappearing in the deciding game against Miami last year.

People are complaining about him being MVP? I guess I would just call anyone doing that a player hater.

I think Nash is great, and I am not a Suns fan. He's fundamentally sound and he absolutely makes his teammates better.
