I have a 1st gen dsm with a frame slightly bent behind the bumper (enough to notice). Should I keep her? It's otherwise in fair condition.

check with a body shop to find out how much it will cost to have the frame straightened, and the front clip fixed and resprayed. if your dsm is a plymouth laser, get rid of it. if it is an eclipse or a talon, it might be worth holding on to, especially if you have put a decent bit of work in to it. if the cost of having it fixed is close to what you can get a new one for, just get rid of it and get a new one.

Which bumper? These cars are unibody, so any frame rail bend challenges the integrity of the car in the event of a crash. My 1G has a tweaked frame rail in the rear, and my rear toe is off, but otherwise totally driveable (my daily driver/weekend racer). And to answer the other question - a DSM is a vehicle built by Diamond Star Motors - a joint venture between Chrysler and Mitsubishi (Eagle Talon, Plymouth Laser, and Mitsubishi Eclipse). Also, the Laser is the same car as the Talon and Eclipse, only with different mouldings and badges. I own a 1G Eclipse GSX and a 1G Laser RS (AWD). They are both great cars. So whether or not you keep her is your call. I'd have a real hard time parting with either of mine!!

What's a DSM?
A bent frame is usually bad news. Makes getting an alignment depending on the severity of the accident nearly impossible. If it's just a small bend then don't worry about it.
