Is Cam Ward overrated?

Did he just get lucky in the playoffs last year or is he truly a rare talent?

He does not have enough of a body of work in the NHL to write him off or to canonize him. He may not be as good as he was in the '06 playoffs and likely not as inconsistent as he has been this year.

The league has had a chance to see his stuff and measure it up, much like a pitcher in baseball. Now it's up to Ward to find his range and work on improving any weaknesses going into next season.

If he approaches the next two years without a need or desire to improve (like Jim Carey did after winning the Vezina a decade ago), he'll be run out of the league. If he focuses on his craft and works on consistency, he'll have himself a nice career and perhaps another shot at a title.

Cam Ward is the REAL DEAL and he is not overrated. if you look at his hockey career this kid has been a winner. and won the Stanley Cup in his 2006 rookie campaign- the first goalie to do so since Hall of Famer Patrick Roy in 1986. Ward played three full seasons with the Red Deer Rebels from 2001-2004, leading the Rebels to the WHL finals twice.

in his Minor League career this kid has won it all.
-Bill Ranford Trophy: 2000-01,
-CHL First Team All-star: 2003-04
-CHL Second Team All-star: 2001-2002
-Del Wilson Trophy: 2001-04, The Del Wilson Trophy is awarded to the top goaltender of the Western Hockey League.
-Four Broncos Memorial Trophy: 2003-04, The Four Broncos Memorial Trophy is awarded to the Player of the Year in the WHL.
-Red Deer Rebels Rookie of the Year: 2000-01
and the biggest prize to win before you make the NHL is the Memorial Cup and he won it in 2000-01 season.

NHL career:
-Conn Smyth Award, given to the most valuable player for his team in the playoffs.

and the CUP every kid thinks of is the Stanley cup his Rookie year.

remember this is only his second year and last year he didn't play a full season give him a few more years and this kid will be great.

Gerber was **** and had a team in front of him all year but when they faced the Habs the first round the Habs where KILLING Gerber, and if it wasnt for Cam Ward the Canes would of been iliminated in the first round garanted. Ward is overrated. Gerber was the better of the two last year. I think anyone could have been in net w/ that team.

I think he's a good goalie, not the best but its only his 2nd season. Alot of pressure was on him to be great in goal this year and maybe it got to him a little. If the canes don't make the playoffs, then his performance will be questioned.

No, I dont think he's overrated. He'll never be a Brodeur or Roy, but he is gifted and a good, young goalie. But here's a name that is better than Ward, and young: Marc-Andre Fleury.

He played very well in the last playoffs but he must find continuity...he's under 90% SV and nearly 3 GAA...
a little bit overrated for me.

Too soon to tell. I thought the same thing about Giguere but that wasn't true (I think) so I doubt Ward is overrated.

Yes. I think he will be a good goalie but not an elite talent. He had a nice stretch in the play-offs but he is no Luongo, Giguere or Brodeur.

I dont think so because he definitely helped win the stanley cup everyone has bad times. I think he is great.
