With all due respect to your Mother, her idea that most of the state lives in poverty is wildly in error. Charlotte is a very nice city, and the Univ. of North Carolina and its branches have a great reputation. For more information on Charlotte, click on the first link below. For more information on UNCC, click on the second link. Good luck.

Have you been to UNCC? UNCC is a great school and Charlotte is a wonderful and huge city. Charlotte is full of opportunities as far as jobs goes. What are you planning on majoring in? Sometimes, a city (or even state) may not cater to your career choice. Other than that Charlotte is a nice area.
As for the statement your mom made about N.C. in poverty is a blanket statement (with all due respect). The whole state of N.C. is not in poverty. I visited other states (and Virginia being one of them) and there were some areas that was in poverty. So every state has an area where people live in poverty. Good Luck at UNCC and hope you like the Charlotte area.

Go to Charlotte and you will be glad you did. UNC Charlotte is a good school. As far as getting a job, I guess it depends on what you are majoring in. Charlotte is the largest city in North Carolina and it is still growing. If you haven't visited UNCC yet, take a trip and bring along your mom so that she can see that N.C. is not in poverty. My sister and a former co-worker of mine moved to Charlotte and they love it. My former co-worker moved without a job to Charlotte and within a month, she was working as a college administrator.
As for North Carolina being in poverty, that is not true at all. North Carolina is one of the fastest growing states now. I have been in North Carolina all of my life and I am (and has always been) far from being in poverty. I lived in Virginia (Petersburg/Richmond area) for a year and there were people in poverty as well. Maybe your mom told you that because she doesn't want you to go far away from home.
Good Luck & I wish you well. Tell you mom to check out this website below and see how N.C. is growing.

I live in the Blue Ridge Mountains of N.C., approx 2-3 hours from Charlotte and the school that you are interested in is a great school. I think that you will find lots of opportunity in Charlotte without any problem and I think that you will love NC and it is not a state of poverty.
Any other questions, let me know.

I think your mother doesn't know what she is talking about - Charlotte is one of the fastest growing cities and the national headquarters of some of Americas largest banks like Bank of America. That said moving to a city you know little about is not necessarily a good idea either. I would suggest you read wikipedia's article on the city and read as much other things you can find. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlotte
Good Luck!!!

I know several who live in that area and are doing well. My only thought is that it is a very conservative area. The woman still dress up just to go to the store, They also frown upon tattoos and other urban attire. It is a very southern atmosphere.
