No, because other students have the right to go to school without feeling degraded or offended. One person's rights to freedom of expression does not trump community rights. Just because you like something offensive or rude doesn't mean you can broadcast it. Just like someone might use "freedom of expression" to run around town with their pants down--their freedom does not trump my right to not have to see it.

we actually discussed this in my government class recently. and some protest happened at my school. the homecoming dance was closed early b/c kids were "dirty dancing" so the next day kids wore shirts protesting against it. the school took some away and the day after they wore shirts that said "you can take away my shirt but not my opinion" I think the students did have the right to wear those shirts but they can't wear shirts with whatever they want.
basically, according to the constitution, everyone has freedom of speech at public schools as long as they dont encite riots or cause disruption.
i know a couple of shirts taken away for promoting alchohol or having women on it. I didn't mind that because they were somewhat offensive. so no i don't think freedom of speech allows students to wear whatever they want on shirts. nor should it then everyone could wear extremely offensive shirts and decency as we know it cease to exist.

freedom of speech is simply that... freedom of speech. You are free in America to like or dislike whatever you want, and express this too. If you choose to express this freedom using profanity or racism, then you have to expect the consequences.
Everyone has the freedom to be a racist, but to act upon this with violence or infringing on another persons rights is illegal.
You can print any shirt you want thats profane, lewd, and/or racist, but you have to expect the consequences. Why do you think places like Tshirthell.com are so lucrative?

Freedom of speach does not allow one to insult, be rude, or insensitive. Racial, sexual, hateful speach is also not allowed. Of course the community you live in custom makes the rules (standards) for your community.

well, profanity isn't allowed in schools or gory shirts
I got away with it though, because I was special
I had one shirt( person was playing the piano, but the keys were knives and razor blades) :)
THe other, it was a surgen looking for a rare demo-tape inside a persons body, after completely mutilating the body he found it)
I was a sick lil' kid back in high school

sure and no. No because a number of which will be seen racist or offensive to some. sure because in the journey that they wrestle to censor each thing then no one would have any freedom of speech any the position. So it really is gotta have some stability you comprehend.

That "Freedom of speech" thing is going too far. Considerinng that kids will see it, not just anything should go on shirts.

Organizations or private institutions have no obligation to uphold freedom of speech.
But I feel, as institutions of progressive thought (or so they claim to be) that it is in their best interest to do so, even if it is offensive.

you are free to put whatever you want to on your shirt. however, you are responsible for what you put on your shirt. i.e. I i could make a shirt that says "i hate blacks," but i am responsible for getting the schit kicked out of me too.
